Edison Garden Market – November 22 – 23, 2014

Mark your calendars for the Edison Garden Market. The event  is FREE to the public. Gardeners will be delighted at this one-stop shopping venue for unique garden items, including flowering trees, tropical plants and fruits, bougainvillea, orchids, roses, bromeliads, palms, cactus, herbs, bonsai, bamboo, ginger, butterfly plants, garden art, home and gardening supplies are all available. Edison Ford horticultural staff will be available to answer questions in the Garden Shoppe. Historic “heritage plants” that have been propagated in the Edison Nursery will be available for purchase.

The Garden Market attracts plant vendors from throughout Florida and attracts gardeners and visitors looking for unique and historical garden items. Florida Butterfly Conference at Edison Ford

Edison Ford planted our Butterfly Garden several years ago with the help of the Edison Garden Club, Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council and the UF Master Gardeners. Since then the garden has flourished and features a lovely reflecting pool with sculptured wading birds by Don Wilkins. The Garden Shoppe also offers a variety of butterfly attracting plants year-round for purchase. Edison Ford horticulture staff is always available for questions.

Tyler spicebush      This is a chance to participate in wonderful programs, enjoy a boxed lunch with friends and meet people from all over Florida. The guest lecturers include noted Botanist, Roger Hammer, who will speak on butterfly gardens; Karen Finch, Sarasota butterfly authority; Sandra Baker-Hinton on butterfly release; and noted artist and writer, Elizabeth Smith will teach illustrated garden journaling. Debbie Hughes, Edison Ford Senior Horticulturalist will speak on pests and pesticides.


Garden Talk: Orchids

Join Senior Horticulturist,  Debbie Hughes, and Garden Shoppe Manager,  Sandra Drake, for the latest news on the Edison Ford Huge Orchid Collection.   Learn about growing orchids especially how Mina Edison attached orchids to the trees.  We will meander through the property discussing the many examples of orchids and their particular likes and dislikes.

Cost:  $5 for Members,   $1Jan 2011 0250 Non-members. Participants will receive a 20% off coupon for use in the Edison Garden Shoppe.  Questions will be answered for growing orchids in all different situations (pots or trees).  If you would like bring an orchid for show and tell or bragging rights we welcome it.
