garden tour pool pond      Join Edison Ford Historic Garden Manager Steve Hottovy and garden staff to experience the 20 acres of gardens of the Edison and Ford families. The Edison Ford Garden Tour is available every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Thomas and Mina Edison came to Fort Myers in 1886. During the next four decades, they created a lovely winter estate complex that included riverside homes, one of the earliest private pools, two laboratories and 15 acres of combined research, family and native plant gardens. Thomas Edison designed the gardens of his winter estate for many purposes, including research on the practical and industrial uses of agricultural and native plants. Today many of the original plants are still thriving. The gardens still include many varieties of bamboo and rubber plants that Edison used in his original research as well as fruit trees, palms, roses, orchids and a Moonlight Garden. Henry Ford purchased the adjacent property in 1916 and developed his own gardens.

After the tour participants are encouraged to explore further with an audio tour of the site (available in English, German, French and Spanish), visit the Edison Botanic Research Lab and Edison Ford Museum filled with inventions, artifacts and activities, all included in the price of admission. Registration is not required. Cost:  Edison Ford Members FREE; non-members $30.
